| PRESS RELEASE UPDATE 10/20/06 (and reminder) Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jr., Son of FDR and Eleanor, noted statesman, two time U.S. Congressman, Under Secretary of Commerce, first Chairman of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, highly decorated US Navy Lt. Cmdr.--receiving both the Purple Heart and Silver Star, will be honored by the residents of Dalton Farm and the Friends of Beekman History at a ribbon cutting ceremony on October 22 at 2:00 PM at the Roosevelt House, Dalton Farm, Poughquag. The office, used by this last full time resident of the manor house, has been recreated to resemble what it may have looked liked during Mr. Roosevelt’s 35 years of residency. Many photos of guests to the home including Presidents Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon as well as various period memorabilia will be on display. Scheduled speakers include U.S. Congresswoman Sue Kelly; Dutchess County Historian Stan Mersand; Dutchess County Chamber of Commerce Director Charles North; Dutchess County Director of Tourism; Mary Kay Verb and FDR III son of the late Mr. Roosevelt. Noted guests to attend are NY State Senator Vinnie Leibell; NY State Assemblyman candidate Marc Molinaro; Dutchess County Supervisor William Steinhouse; Ductchess County Representative Gerry Hutchins; Beekman Town Supervisor John Adams; and many other luminaries. The public is welcomed to attend this major event. Docents will provide guided tours of the House and grounds. Refreshments will be served between 2:00 PM and 4:00 PM. A blue ribbon cutting ceremony will take place at Dalton Farm’s Roosevelt House, Poughquag, NY on Sunday, October 22 at 2:00 PM to honor Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Jr., the last full time resident of the estate. The homeowners of Dalton Farm and the Friends of Beekman History have recreated Mr. Roosevelt’s office as it may have looked during his 35 years of residency. FDR, Jr. was a noted attorney, businessman, highly regarded equestrian, breeder of cattle and horses, Under Secretary of Commerce, Head of the Equal Opportunity Commission and two time U.S. Congressman. During nearly four decades, the manor house played host to no less than three sitting Presidents (Kennedy, Johnson and Nixon) as well as countless foreign leaders, ambassadors, congressional representatives, and other dignitaries. Invited guests to this historic ceremony include notables on a national, regional and local level. The public is welcomed to attend this major event.
