Office of the Supervisor

The Town Board is comprised of an elected Supervisor serving a two-year term and four elected council members each serving four-year terms. The Town Board controls Town finances, acquisition of real property, the Town budget, salary negotiations, legislation and policy. With the exception of elected officials, the Town Board also votes to confirm all employees as well as members of boards serving the Town such as the Planning Board, Zoning Board of Appeals, Conservation Advisory Council, Assessment Review Board and Ethics Board.

The Town Supervisor is the Chief Fiscal Officer of the Town and shares financial oversight responsibilities with the Town Board. The Town Board adopts a budget each year which includes funding for a vast array of Town services. The Town Board is responsible for auditing all fiscal operations of the Town. As Chief Financial Officer, the Supervisor is responsible for the accounting records and required State and Local financial reporting as well as independent audits. The Town Supervisor oversees the day to day operations of Town Government. The Town Supervisor is responsible for carrying out decisions of the Board, administering the budget, and disbursing funds. The Town Supervisor represents the Town at various functions. The Supervisor is a member of the Town Board, presides at all Town Board meetings, and votes on all matters before the Board.

The Supervisor’s Office prepares the agenda for meetings that include requests of the Town Board members, other Boards, Department Heads, Community Organizations, and individual community members. Twice a month the Town Board holds a public meeting to discuss and make decisions on pending Town business such as scheduling public hearings to consider legislation, adopting tax exemptions for seniors and veterans, accepting dedicated roads that meet Town standards, awarding bids for equipment and materials, vetting contracts such as those for ball fields, construction projects, approving all expenditures and much more.
